Machin stamp

Joan Marray and I were privileged to stay at the Staffordshire home of Arnold Machin, designer of the classic British stamp and coin motifs.

Extraordinary to see the original bas relief sculptures up on the Hall wall. Arnold did some very much more sexy female scultures than this one of Queen Elizabeth - perhaps she felt this genre unsuitable for stamps! He was still sculpting in clay until his death that year. Arnold is survived by his wife, Pat, another Fine Artist.
